Obituary of Leona Zenia Bobbie

Leona, Zenia Bobbie (nee Zadorozny). With great sadness we announce that Leona Bobbie passed away peacefully in the presence of her family at the age of 97 on March 24 2025 at the Ukrainian Canadian Care Centre (UCCC) in Etobicoke Ontario.

Leona moved to the GTA from Windsor in 2011, after the death of her husband Mike, in order to be closer to her family. Leona was married to Mike for 62 years. Together they shared a life that was full of love, admiration and respect for each other and raised a family blessed to have them as their parents. Leona was the caring and loving mother to Daniel (Christina), Bill (Jean) and Tim (Cathy). Grandmother/Baba to Cassandra, Michelle, Carter and Adam. Great Grandmother/Baba to Darius.

Predeceased by siblings Mary, Steve, Vera, Sally and Violet. Survived by brothers Hank, Roman and Ivan.

Leona was born on March 14, 1928 to Dora (nee Derkach) and William Zadorozny at SEC.36, TP25, RGE10, W2ND in the Beaver Hills area, which is now called Hubbard Saskatchewan.

At age 15 Leona’s family moved from Hubbard to Nipawin Saskatchewan, where the family had procured more land for better farming. In 1948, shortly after finishing high school at age 19 she moved to Windsor Ontario. Leona met Mike at the Sts. Vladimir and Olga Ukrainian Catholic Church in Windsor, which was the centre of social activity for many Ukrainian community members. Mike and Leona were married on the family farm in Nipawin Saskatchewan in August of 1949 after having driven there from Windsor that summer. Their farm wedding was an open event, for all friends and neighbours to attend.

In addition to raising her three sons, Leona worked at various retail stores in Windsor, including Loblaws, Grays Department Store and Business Girl Fashions. Our family and friends have great memories of times spent at the Bobbie house both on Hall Avenue and Grand Marais West. We have great memories of summer vacations travelling to the family farms in Englehart Ontario (Bobbie farm) and Nipawin Saskatchewan (Zadorozny Farm). In addition, Mike and Leona enjoyed travelling together often with friends to various other locations. Leona will be missed by her family, her friends, the parishioners of Sts. Vladimir & Olga Ukrainian Catholic Church, UCCC and by all those she touched during her life.

The family expresses their sincere gratitude and thanks to the staff, nurses, caregivers and the volunteers at the Ukrainian Canadian Care Centre for the love, support and kindness they showed to Leona while she lived there.

In lieu of flowers please consider donating to the Ukrainian Canadian Care Centre, 60 Richview Road, Toronto Ontario M9A-5E4
