I am so sad to just hear about Professor Kuttner's passing. He was one of my favourite professors at UNB Law over 20 years ago and I never got the opportunity to tell him what an impact he made on me personally and professionally in terms of boosting my confidence and belief in my own abilities as I was about to embark on my legal career. He was a wonderful person and a great teacher. My sincerest condolences to his family and friends.

Our paths crossed when we were undergraduates at the University of Toronto and in various professional capacities from time to time over the years that followed. I always found Tom to be intelligent, personable, engaging, passionate and authentic. He was a rare individual who will be missed. My condolences to his family. Jeff Rose, Toronto

Tom holds a place deep in my heart. I know his loved ones will be feeling his loss. He was an amazingly generous and kind person. I met him first as a colleague at UNB in 1995. He took me under his wing, and invited me, as a junior academic, to work with him on the CASHRA factum in the Vriend case. It was a gift (and transformative for me) in so many ways. I learned so much from him about thought, writing, activism and heart. He was so much more than just a colleague. When Steve and I had our first child, Tom was a surrogate grandparent, providing our newly extended family with the same tenderness we received from the bio-grandparents. Indeed, he taught us the football hold for our little one! He also supported me in continuing to move in the world, encouraging me to attend my first post-child academic conference with a newborn. He spend much of his time at that conference carrying my little person around so i could attend other sessions. His love of his own children spilled into his interactions with the children of others. His kindness to young people and his respect for their ideas and adventures was both evident and inspirational. I I have so many wonderful memories of meaningful conversations with him about law, history, time and transformation. But even stronger, are the gifts I received from being in the presence of a person who truly knew how to build and nourish connections across generations. To his family, I am so grateful for the time I had with Tom, and want you to know that he will continue to live in my heart. May his memory be a blessing to you.

I am very sad to hear this news. Tom was a wonderful colleague who I met at Windsor Law. He was an excellent academic who was very knowledgable in a number of subjects and could spend hours providing a lively conversation as a result.. Tom was always very friendly and willing to lend a hand whenever anyone was in need. I was very fond of him and will miss him very much. Besa, Yasmine, Bret and I send our deepest condolences to Laverne, Tom's family and friends.

I first met Tom on a job interview at UNB Law. He picked me up at the airport and we had a great conversation about the law faculty (he had locked his keys in the car so we had a lot of time to talk waiting for the tow truck!). I had read several of his papers in preparation so I knew that he had made a significant contribution to his field of study. What I didn’t know is how welcoming and candid he was…his insights and guidance really helped me during the interview. And after I got the job, he would drop by my office at least once a week to see how I was doing. He spent countless hours helping me learn how to teach, how to manage faculty dynamics, etc. When he left UNB in 2010, we lost a great professor, mentor, and friend. But then, to my surprise, he continued to check in on me! Tom had a vibrant spirit and an exemplar of what it means to be a supportive mentor and generous colleague.
